This 1970 Mercury Cyclone Spoiler two-door hardtop coupe was sold new by Hugh Palmer Motor Co. of Lebanon, Missouri, and acquired by the current owner in March 2018. Refurbishment work over the next six years included refinishing the car in orange over black houndstooth cloth and vinyl upholstery and replacing the 429ci Cobra Jet V8. Equipment includes a three-speed C-6 automatic transmission, a Traction-Lok differential, 14″ Magnum 500-style wheels, power-assisted front disc brakes, power steering, concealed quad headlights, front and rear spoilers, high-back front bucket seats, and air conditioning. This Cyclone is now offered on consignment by the selling dealer, a BaT Local Partner, with an Elite Marti Report, service records, and a clean Pennsylvania title. The body was stripped to bare metal, mounted to a rotisserie, and refinished in orange during the aforementioned refurbishment. Additional work involved refurbishing the spoilers, headlight assemblies, and side mirrors as well as replacing the grille, marker light lenses, taillight lenses, weatherstripping, and glass. Exterior details include a functional Ram Air hood scoop, a protruding front grille, a blacked-out tail panel, polished wheel-arch moldings, black Cyclone Spoiler graphics, and a dual-outlet exhaust system that exits below the rear bumper. The 14″ Magnum 500-style wheels are mounted with reproduction GR70-14 Firestone redline tires. The Spoiler included the Competition Handling Package, and additional equipment includes power steering and power-assisted front discs. The high-back front bucket seats and rear bench were reupholstered in color-coordinated black vinyl and houndstooth cloth in February 2018. Additional cabin work included replacing the carpeting, dash pad, headliner, trunk filler boards, and door panels. The air conditioning system was converted to R134 refrigerant in September 2026. The heater core is disconnected, though a replacement is included in the sale. The AM radio is inoperative. The steering wheel fronts a 140-mph speedometer and a fuel-level gauge. The five-digit odometer shows 91k miles, approximately 50 of which were added under current ownership. Total mileage is unknown. The replacement 429ci Cobra Jet V8 is said to use a block sourced from the Wood Brothers Racing NASCAR team, and it is topped with a Rochester Quadrajet four-barrel carburetor. It was installed in February 2019, and the provided build specs include: The Ford C-6 Select-Shift three-speed automatic transmission was rebuilt during the refurbishment, and the U-joints were replaced in February 2023. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a 9″ Traction-Lok rear differential with 3.00:1 gearing. A framed Elite Marti Report, reproduction window sticker, and VIN data decal are included in the sale. Photos of the vehicle during the refurbishment are available in the gallery below. The Pennsylvania title carries a Classic Vehicle brand.
